FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  • How is gold tested?    back to top

The piece of gold jewelry or other precious metal is rubbed on a test stone using four firm strokes (two forward and two back) so that a very noticeable streak of metal is left on the stone. This does not damage the gold jewelry.

A drop of pre-mixed acid is then placed on the center of the streak to test the karat. There are different acids for each karat as well as for different metals. If the streak on the stone noticeably changes color or disappears, then the gold or precious metal is not real.

If a gold streak changes color only very slightly, then the karat is less than the test acid. If the metal streak does not change at all, then it has a higher karat than the test acid. Example: When using a 14 karat gold test acid, a 10 karat gold streak will exhibit a large color change or completely disappear, a 14 karat gold streak may have a very slight color change, and if the gold is higher than 14 karat, it will not change at all.

  • Do attendees get paid on the spot?    back to top

Yes. It’s our company standard to pay cash on the spot and this is most often the case. Some local and state regulations, however, require us to pay by check.

  • Do you buy diamonds or other precious stones?    back to top

No, we do not buy diamonds or precious stones, only precious metals such as silver, platinum, and gold. If your gold jewelry has diamonds or other precious stones in them, we will remove the diamonds and/or stones and happily give them back to you to keep or sell elsewhere.

  • Does an event have to be a fundraiser    back to top
No, we also schedule private gold parties and other events upon request. Please contact us for more info.
  • How do you determine market price for gold?    back to top

We use the spot price listed at Kitco.com - http://www.kitco.com/market/. If the gold event is taking place outside of market hours, we'll use the latest closing price.
